Attended the Statement Basics workshop after years of just filing pension letters unopened. The facilitator was patient and explained things at a pace that suited the group. I left with a clear sense of what each section of my UK pension statement actually means. No sales pitch, no pressure — exactly what it said on the tin.
The Planner & Records Pack session changed how I handle paperwork. I've had superannuation statements from three different Australian funds sitting in a drawer for four years. Now they're labelled, filed, and I know what each section means. The facilitator was knowledgeable and the session felt like a practical workshop rather than a lecture.
The quarterly membership suits me well. I find it helpful to have four touchpoints a year where I'm reminded to check my records and get any terminology questions answered. The discussion space is useful too, though I'd say it works best when people keep questions at a general level rather than asking for specific advice — which Nestwell manages sensibly.
I've attended three sessions now. What I appreciate most is the honesty about scope — they tell you clearly what the session is and isn't. I always walk away with something concrete I can do. The Statement Basics workshop gave me a framework I still use every time I open a new statement.
Good use of a morning. The session covered more than I expected in terms of how different pension formats compare across countries. My situation involves a South African pension and a UK occupational scheme, and the general framework was applicable to both. Four stars because I'd have liked slightly more time on the projection sections — though they did flag that for a future session.
I joined the Quarterly Membership after attending the Statement Basics first. Having four sessions a year keeps me engaged with my paperwork in a way I wouldn't manage alone. The discussion space is helpful for the general questions that come up between sessions. Nattaya keeps everything running very smoothly.
How People Have Used Their Sessions
Anonymised summaries shared with participant permission. Names and some details changed for privacy.
A retired teacher from New Zealand who had lived in Bangkok for six years. She had several NZ KiwiSaver and UK state pension notifications arriving each year and had been setting them aside as "too complicated to deal with now."
Attended the Statement Basics session first, then the Planner & Records Pack session three months later. Used the planner to create a folder system covering both pension types, with a note page for each provider's key contact details.
Reported that she now opens and reads her annual statements the week they arrive. She said the main change was knowing what to look for and having somewhere to put the information — not anything the content itself revealed. She subsequently engaged a pension adviser of her own choosing for personal decisions.
"I didn't need someone to tell me what to do. I needed to understand what I was looking at. That's exactly what Nestwell gave me."
— Workshop participant, Auckland / Bangkok
A British couple, both in their late fifties, approaching retirement within the next five years. They had defined-benefit pensions from former UK employers and had received deferred pension notifications they found difficult to interpret.
Attended a Statement Basics session together, bringing their actual notifications in a sealed envelope (not opened in the session). The general framework from the session enabled them to read those documents themselves afterwards, and they attended a second session to clarify specific terminology.
They were able to confirm what their deferred entitlements were in general terms and understood which sections to direct a UK-based pension adviser to when they later had a consultation. Nestwell's role was limited to reading literacy — the personal decisions were made with proper professional input.
"We came in confused about the language in the letters. We left understanding what questions to ask our pension provider."
— Workshop participants, London / Bangkok
An American who had accumulated various 401(k) and IRA statements over many years. The mix of providers, rollover history, and changing statement formats had resulted in a filing situation described as "a box of papers I try not to look at."
Started with the Planner & Records Pack session, then joined the Quarterly Membership. The first session gave him a filing system; the membership sessions helped him understand the terminology across his different account types over subsequent quarters.
Described having a clear organisational system for the first time, allowing him to hand a properly structured file to a fee-only financial planner for a periodic review — rather than a box of unsorted papers. The planner reportedly spent significantly less time on administrative triage as a result.
"The Planner session gave me a structure. The membership gives me a reason to keep it current. That combination works for me."
— Membership participant, Chicago / Bangkok
